Volunteering
Volunteering REALLY IS REWARDING
Volunteering with us or in the community is more than lending a hand, it’s about becoming part of a movement that values connection, inclusivity, and purpose. Whether you’re supporting local families, contributing to mental health awareness, or helping shape accessible community resources, your time, and skills create ripples of impact. Volunteers gain meaningful relationships, a sense of belonging, and the chance to grow personally and professionally. In a world that often feels disconnected, your involvement helps build a stronger, more compassionate community, one where everyone has a place and every contribution matters.

How Can You Help?
Join Our Management Committee
Did you know the Roleystone Family Centre is guided by a team of passionate locals who help shape the services we provide? While our staff manage the day-to-day, our Management Committee works quietly in the background to make sure everything we offer stays vibrant, relevant, and community driven.
If you care about your local community and want to be part of something that truly makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
What’s Involved?
- First, you’ll meet informally with our Centre Manager to chat about what the role involves — and whether it feels like the right fit for you and the centre.
- If you’re keen to take the next step, you’ll be invited to attend part of a monthly committee meeting to meet the current members and see how we work.
- From there, the group will decide together whether there’s a good fit and room for a new voice on the team.
We meet once a month — just enough to stay connected without feeling overwhelmed.
This isn’t just a meeting room seat — it’s a chance to help shape what your Family Centre means to your neighbourhood.
Not Ready for the Committee?
Join a Sub-Committee Instead
If you’re not quite ready to step into a Management Committee role, there’s another great way to get involved.
Subcommittees focus on specific areas of the Family Centre, supporting staff and the committee through short-term, goal-based projects. It’s a meaningful way to contribute — and a great stepping stone if you’re curious about getting more involved.
How It Works
- Informal Chat: Meet with the Centre Manager to discuss which sub-committees are currently active.
- Attend a Session: Sit in on a meeting to understand the focus and meet others involved.
- Choose Your Fit: Join a sub-committee that matches your skills, interests, or curiosity.
- Flexible Commitment: Sub-committee involvement is shaped around your availability.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, get in touch — we’d love to tell you more about the opportunities available right now.
Help Out Behind the Scenes
Grounds & Maintenance Volunteers
Our Family Centre runs on community spirit, and that includes the generous locals who lend a hand with small maintenance jobs. When you share your time or skills, you’re helping us save on external repair costs, allowing more of our funding to go toward programs and services that directly support the people who rely on us.
Every contribution counts, even the smallest task helps keep our spaces safe, welcoming, and running smoothly.
How It Works
- This is one of our most flexible ways to get involved.
- You’re welcome to pop in to see what needs doing, or let us call you when small tasks come up.
- There’s always something helpful to do — and it’s appreciated more than you know.
Would you like this paired with a casual photo or a short testimonial from a past volunteer? It could add even more personality and trust to the message.
Office Volunteering
Lend Your Skills Behind the Scenes
If you’re looking to get more involved and can offer a bit of extra time, consider becoming an office volunteer. This role requires a little more commitment and some training, but it’s a great way to learn, contribute, and grow alongside our team.
How It Works
- Initial Meeting: Have a chat with the Centre Manager to explore how your skills can support the Centre — and what you might gain from the experience too.
- Schedule Setup: Find days and times that work for both you and the team.
- Onboarding: Complete the necessary paperwork, including a privacy agreement, your personal details, and police clearance.
Office Admin Tasks May Include
- Greeting visitors and helping them find what they need
- Archiving records
- Updating photo files
- Supporting staff with small daily admin tasks
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, please get in touch — we’d love to hear from you.

How It Works
The Toy Library is community-run and operates independently.
You’re welcome to visit during school terms, on Saturday mornings from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Community Projects
Powered by Local Passion
The Family Centre is proud to support a wide range of community-led projects that make a real impact. From Boomerang Bag sustainability efforts to support for people experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, or disaster recovery, we work hand-in-hand with locals to meet real needs and create lasting connections.
How It Works
- Our projects are ever-evolving — shaped by emerging needs, new ideas, and the generosity of those who step up.
- You can join an existing initiative, launch a new one with our support, or ask for help with something you’re already leading.
- We value collaboration and inclusivity, and we welcome all ideas, big or small.
